Saddleworth Beer Walk 2002

This year's Saddleworth Beer Walk was a great success. We had 39 walkers who collected £750 on the day - sponsorship money is still to come in.

The weather held for most of the afternoon, but a late 'deluge' in Delph sent many of the spectators running for cover - not to mention the walkers - although it meant the potato pie supper at the Clarence afterwards was extra welcome.

Walking for the Association, Steve Jones was the first man home with Mike Taylor (Widow Twanky) not far behind.


Metal Morris Men
The Metal Morris Men (headed by Billy Westhead) came third in the costume prizes - their heavy metal Morris dance will be a sight long remembered and Dave Schofield as Gandalf, with Janet Rathburn and Maria Schofield as hobbits, looked brilliant and made the next edition of the Oldham Evening Chronicle!
